Hi guys
heres a quick thread to show you how to turn your ageing ide(pata) hard drive into a fully working sata HDD ... this is handy if you want to create a raid array but only have one sata drive but a ide drive of the same capacity
first of all go to http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Pr...TA-IDE-Adaptor and purchase the "SERIAL ATA IDE ADAPTOR" ... this connects to your 20pin connection on your ide hard drive however you can still use your molex power connector to power the drive.... then once you have connected this connect a floppy power connector to the converter.... this powers the actual adapter.... most power supplys have two floppy connectors so you should be fine however if you dont have a floppy power connector you can buy one at http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/2164
then connect a sata data cable to the sata port on the card and then connect the other end to the sata port on the motherboard..
you can also connect the adapter to the ide port on your motherboard making your motherboard sata compatible... so if you have sata hard drive but no sata port on your motherboard then this is the method for you
in theory you could even do both... connect one adapter to the ide port on the motherboard and the other to the ide hard drive.. however this is untested.. but theres no real reason why it wouldnt work....
take care guys !
